TROPHY

PROPOSAL FOR 'KEEP AN EYE FOUNDATION'

ABSTRACT

'Keep an Eye Foundation' rewards top design students with grants in The Netherlands and they were looking to redesign their trophy into something iconic. As a designer, I wanted to have a trophy that represents design, which isn't one way of thinking, but a rather a mix of creativity and analytical reasoning, like the poetry and science of a butterfly.

CONCEPT

Butterfly Trophy

Butterflies come in all shapes, colors and sizes, but their overall design stays constant. When abstracting their wings, a simple pattern of triangles appear - two equilateral and two right-angled. These four shapes were then combined in different ways to produce a variety of sketches that derived the final shape for the trophy. The materials used are 3D printed plastic for the front, wood for the back, and silicon-molded plastic for the center. Three materials that together represent the poetry and science of a butterfly.
