SPACE JAM: HIP HOP

EVENT PRODUCTION COLLECTIVE
IN COLLABORATION WITH ALVIN ARTHUR, LITHAI PLETAIN, MICHAEL STREBEL & FERRAN AVILA

BACKGROUND

We were international students when we met in Eindhoven, The Netherlands. We all shared a similar desire towards hip hop culture and we all were struggling with the fact the our city didn't supply what we crave. Our frustration manifested on October 2015, when together we organized the kind of outlet we so much desired, our first party, a proper hip hop party. It's simple, straight, hard, pumping, raw hip hop, no dubstep, no disco.

CONCEPT

At our beginning, two knew how to DJ, one had just learned how to DJ, and the two others couldn't DJ. As of May 2018, we have been a part of 18 productions, 15 of which were our own, in 7 different venues around Eindhoven.

Most of our events include a crowd-friendly way of dealing with tickets. If you're name is on the 'going' list on the facebook event page by 7PM on the day of the party, you get on a free guest list that runs for 1.5 hours from when the doors open. With that in mind, we never really profited from our events; and still we try every party to feature new DJs that make a constant and trustful crowd (250 people on average, depends on venue) dance until the owners turn on the lights.

Conceptually we want to see our collective a few steps further. Locally, SJ:HH wants to work with more young local artists, from DJs, to rappers, producers and even dancers. We plan to diversify our productions beyond parties to other types of cultural events; go from 'hip hop party' to 'hip hop inc'. On that note, we can definitely say that we see a future for hip hop in Eindhoven and we wish to broaden our scope to to our home cities of Tel Aviv, Paris, Barcelona and Zurich, look out for us.

Space Jam X: Hip Hop Fest

Our 10th event was held at the 'Temporary Art Center' in Eindhoven on June 30th 2017. As we felt that number 10 is sort of a milestone, we decided to put up our largest production yet, a 12 hour outdoor/indoor festival with 13 DJs, movie screenings and a special snack selection. Being a festival, it had its own visual language that was inspired by the original brand design. It also featured an online marketing campaign that communicated all the artists, each in their own spotlight with their bios. The decoration had a stack of old TV sets (that showed images with the names of the artists) on both sides of the stage, which featured the first rapper to ever perform live at SJ:HH.
